Autoimmune Disorders
Understanding Autoimmune Disease
Autoimmune disease occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells in the body, leading to inflammation and damage. This can result in a wide range of symptoms and conditions, depending on which tissues and organs are affected. Common autoimmune disorders include Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis.
Managing autoimmune disease involves identifying and removing triggers that activate the immune response. This may include addressing diet, environmental factors, stress, and infections. By working to reduce inflammation and support the immune system, individuals with autoimmune conditions can experience improvements in their symptoms and overall health.
Holistic Approaches to Autoimmune Management
Many individuals with autoimmune disease find relief through holistic approaches that focus on addressing the root causes of inflammation and immune dysfunction. This may involve working with a functional medicine practitioner to identify food sensitivities, gut issues, and nutrient deficiencies that are contributing to the autoimmune response.
In addition to dietary changes and lifestyle modifications, holistic treatments for autoimmune disease may include acupuncture, herbal medicine, and mind-body techniques such as meditation and yoga. By taking a comprehensive approach to wellness, individuals with autoimmune conditions can achieve better outcomes and reduce their reliance on medications that only manage symptoms.

How Common is Autoimmune Disease?
Autoimmunity in the United States is increasing every year at an alarming rate. Most cases of autoimmune associated illness are not diagnosed or incorrectly diagnosed. Most cases of auto-immunity continue to progress and as symptoms worsen the person with the illness feels the effects ravaging their body and brain.
Conventional medicine has little to offer except steroids and pain medications. The doses of these medicines usually has to increase as the body adjusts to the current levels. Conventional medical treatments also come with a myriad of side effects that sometimes can feel just as bad as the symptoms of the disease.
Although they will tout “treatments” for autoimmune conditions, conventional medicine and some alternative medicine may not fully understand how to correctly manage auto-immunity.
It is understood that auto-immunity is the immune system is mistakenly attacking healthy tissue in our body. It is making “auto anti-bodies”. It is not distinguishing between “self” and “non-self”.
About Autoimmune Disease
Essentially the immune system becomes confused and not only attacks the trigger but also the tissues in your body.
The mechanism for autoimmune diseases is always the same. The difference is which tissue is attacked.
Left unmanaged or just suppressed by steroids the triggers of the autoimmune disease are still there thus still wreaking havoc on the body. Steroidal use is for the sole purpose of suppressing the immune system and decreasing inflammation. This is not a long term solution to autoimmune disease.
The key to managing auto-immunity is to remove the triggers to your immune system.
How do you remove these triggers?
Proper testing comes first followed by customized plans to support, manage and get your immune system back on track.
